Dr. Napoleon 2006
Jonathan Meese is one of Germany's great contemporary artists. For the painting I got this description from the Meese studio: "Presented for the first time in an exhibition at the Contemporary Fine Arts Galerie, it features one of Jonathan Meese's "alter egos": Napoleon. Meese repeatedly reflects on history and politics through individual characters - Napoleon, Stalin, Hitler. Absolute crystallizations of human power, all of whom have failed and whom Meese fundamentally rejects. As a result, they are often satirically distorted and disfigured. The illustrations remind us that, in reality, there is no room for totalitarian systems and their brains. A circumstance, however, that reminds us of today's most pressing need."
